Lab 9/6: Isolation of Bacteria Part 1

(the phone we used)

(the inside handle to the girl's bathroom)

The petri dish with the bacteria from the door handle's on the left and the one with bacteria from the phone is on the right.
This week in lab, we collected bacteria samples from various places. We swabbed a phone and the inside handle of the girls bathroom. In order to collect the bacteria, we took a test tube with broth and a swab, dipped the swab in the broth and wiped it on 1) the phone and 2) the bathroom door handle and then smeared each swab on 2 different petri dishes with Nutrient Agar Broth to grow the bacteria from both places. The petri dishes were put in an incubator, providing the ideal temperature for the bacteria to grow, and on Thursday, the petri dishes will be taken out and observed.
